9 Impact of networked learning on quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation
Quality assurance issues were not raised to any extent
in the interviews; however, the questionnaire data suggested that
networked learning had an impact in two major ways:
• in the development of distance learning
courses/modules,
• in the use of [the VLE] for student module evaluation.
Whilst the distance learning itself is not necessarily
online learning interview responses have indicated that the institution
is using
the VLE to reach students in the international market. This was
noted especially in relation to the development of new businesses
and niche
marketing.
Questionnaire responses
Two out of the five respondents were asked questions
in relation to quality assurance(QA). Both of these felt that there
had
been major changes in terms of QA procedures, the staff and
student experience and in procedures for supporting students. They
diverged
slightly
in their views in relation to procedures for the development
of materials and assessment processes. One felt that changes
in this
area were
major, with the other suggesting that they were only minor.
Summary
Quality monitoring procedures were not discussed in
the interviews to any extent; however, the questionnaire data suggested
major changes in a number of areas.
