9 Impact of networked learning on quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation
Quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation did feature
to some extent in the interviews, but there were no reports of particular
changes to the process of quality assurance and monitoring:
No I don’t think there have really [been any
changes in QA management]... if we talk about quality assurance for
a moment, the
university is clinging on to a system of five yearly department
reviews where all departmental activities are looked at and there
are two
external panel members in each team that does the review. (H6I6)
I think there isn’t formal evaluation and monitoring of intimate
details of students’ studying habit… we are very keen
to well I suppose increase effort in... evaluation and an understanding
of how students actually use these resources but I wouldn’t
say it is systematic... (H6I4)
This suggests that there have been no major changes
to the quality assurance procedures as a result of the development
of networked
learning.
Questionnaire data
This above view is supported by the questionnaire
data. The main impact is seen as having fallen on development of
learning
materials and assessment procedures but this has not, as of
yet, impacted
on the actual quality monitoring procedures.
Summary
No major changes to the quality assurance procedures
were identified as a result of the development of networked
learning. This
view is supported by the questionnaire data which notes
that the area
that
has been most affected is the development of online materials.
